Chapter 474

“So, this man… is the backer that the legal assistant mentioned?” one of the terrified kidnappers thought.

The kidnapper could only wonder what sort of backer could be that capable.

At that moment, Jonathan shot a chilly gander at the man without a mask before he ordered his subordinates

beside him, “Teach this man a lesson of a lifetime later. He shall have a taste of his own medicine.”

“Understood,” replied the subordinate. Deep down, he was murmuring, “Poor man… To be taught a lesson from Mr.

Youngblood would only mean to have one foot in the grave!”

That sent shivers down that man’s spine. Right when Jonathan was all ready to hop onto the black Bentley with

Rosalie in his arms, the man suddenly yelled, “Who exactly are you? And she… Is she really just a mere assistant?”

In his book, no backer could grant such privilege to an assistant, one who only had average looks at that.

Everything around him seemed to have gone crazy, or so he thought.

He had simply cut himself a business deal, to begin with. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect things to end up

like that.

No one answered his questions. Jonathan had already gotten into the car with Rosalie in his embrace, and slowly,

the car drove away from the scene.

In the car, Rosalie expressed her gratitude toward Jonathan, “Thank you.”

Had it not been for him, Rosalie would have ended up in quite a miserable state that day.

“Aren’t you a smart one to have contacted me?” uttered Jonathan “Do you know who you’ve offended?”

Rosalie shook her head at that. She had indeed stepped on some people’s toes, but at that instant, she could not

very well figure out the person who would resort to such means.

“This is already the second time,” Jonathan said.

“What second time?” Rosalie froze.

“Didn’t someone try to harm you the last time at the entrance of the residential area where you live now? Today’s

their second attempt.”

“You mean… they’re under the same order?”

“That we’ll find out after running an investigation,” Rosalie stated Jonathan coldly. His eyes, though, turned all

gentle the second his gaze landed on Rosalie who was in a mess.

“Does it hurt a lot?” Jonathan asked softly.

“I guess so, but… I can still bear with it.” Even though one side of Rosalie’s cheeks was painfully scorching, the hurt

was actually much lighter compared to what she had gone through in prison.

A pucker creased Jonathan’s forehead on that note. As lightly as he could, he touched the blood trickling down from

the corner of Rosalie’s lips with his fingers.

The slaps had scarred the corner of her mouth.

“It’s only some blood. I’ll just wipe them off.” As Rosalie spoke, she was about to take out a tissue and wipe away

the blood oozing out of her mouth.

Nevertheless, Jonathan grabbed Rosalie’s hand and stopped her. “Save the trouble.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Rosalie wondered as she blinked in befuddlement. On the heels of that, all she

could see was Jonathan’s face closing in right before her eyes.

A warm, moist touch at the corner of her lips was what Rosalie felt next.

“Jonathan… is licking my blood!” Rosalie secretly shouted.

Rosalie’s body suddenly stiffened as she felt a burning sensation all over the spots Jonathan licked.

After a long time, Jonathan seemed to have finally cleaned up the bloodstains on Rosalie’s lips. Pressing his

forehead gently

against Rosalie’s, Jonathan piped up with a trace of self-reproach, “It was my fault that you got hurt.”

“Does Jonathan even realize how suggestive his action is?” Rosalie asked herself. Be that as it might, she seemed

unable to lift her stiff arm at that point, let alone push Jonathan away.

“I might be injured… but you’re not to blame. If anything, I must thank you for showing up and saving me,” Rosalie

voiced as she gulped down her saliva.

Jonathan, however, thought otherwise. He laughed at himself, saying, “I failed to keep you away from harm. The

last thing I want to see is you getting hurt.”

Rosalie was silent. Jonathan’s breath hung around her nose, and they seemed as intimate as ever.

Even so, Jonathan knew that it was not those physical injuries but the wounds in Rosalie’s heart that were hurting.

Only time would tell when all the hurt would heal.

As the car came to a halt at the front gate of the hospital, Jonathan carried Rosalie and alighted the vehicle.

During the interim, the doctor had long been awaiting their arrival in the special consulting room. The second

Rosalie arrived, the doctor gave her a round of examination.

Fortunately, it was nothing more than some bruises. There was nothing to worry about, for the redness and swelling

on her face would subside in a few days.

When the examination was done, a new blouse was placed right before her eyes.

“Get dressed,” came Jonathan’s command.

“Oh.” She returned a response. Considering that her blouse was torn apart near the shoulder, there was no way

she could continue wearing it.

Rosalie reached out, intending to take the blouse, but Jonathan did not seem to mean to hand it to her.

Because of that, Rosalie regarded Jonathan in utter confusion.

“You’re hurt, so I don’t think it’ll be convenient for you to change your own clothes.”

“So? He means that…” Rosalie blushed as she thought of that. With that, her already red and swollen cheek looked

even more vibrant than before.

“Well… You can ask the nurse to give me a hand,” suggested Rosalie in a frantic. At that juncture, they were resting

in a VIP lounge, waiting for the staff to fetch them the prescription.

“Are you shy?” Jonathan asked. “But what’s there to be shy? Didn’t I also help you change your clothes back then?”

Rosalie mentally remarked, “But that was before! It’s different now!”

“There’s no way I’ll let a lad change my clothes,” she insisted with gritted teeth. Besides, she could not convince

herself to accept that kind of help.

Jonathan pursed his lips tightly.

The air in the room became tense. Just when Rosalie thought that Jonathan might be ticked off, Jonathan suddenly

wheeled around and exited the room.

A moment later, a nurse stepped in with the said blouse in Rosalie’s hand. “Ms. Leighton, Mr. Youngblood asked me

to help you change into this,” the nurse said.

Rosalie was stunned for a moment and then said, “Okay, thank you.”

After Rosalie got dressed, Jonathan came back in. “The prescription is here. I’ll give you a ride home.”

Jonathan’s attitude did not seem to have any change as though the brief tension in the atmosphere had never

existed.

As he spoke, he wanted to pick her up altogether.

“I can walk myself,” were Rosalie’s words.

Yet, Rosalie’s words weighed nothing. Jonathan still carried her, headed outside, got her out of the hospital, and

returned to the rental home where she lived.

Jonathan carefully put Rosalie on the chair and went into the bathroom. After a while, he came out with a clean wet

towel. “Come, wipe your face clean before applying medicine.”

“Oh,” answered Rosalie.

However, Jonathan did not pass her the towel. Instead, he started wiping her face in her stead.

His movements were extremely gentle, but Rosalie still took a sharp breath from time to time.

Although she did not wail in pain, to see her countenance showing her putting up with it was proof to him that she

was truly in pain at that point.

“Just let it out if it hurts.”
