Chapter 421: The Power of Bad Luck

“It’s…broken?” Compass Carburettor was shocked. After all, this was the strongest material that he was able to create using his abilities. But, the thing that shocked him the greatest, even more than it being severed into three pieces, was the fact that this happened without his knowledge.

He was unable to understand just how it had shattered. He was in the midst of killing Dullin when he inserted it into his throat. And when Dullin had spat it out, it was still in one piece.

Even when they were trading blows, Compass Carburettor noticed that there wasn’t even a scratch on his energy blade sword. So, he was simply unable to understand just how this was possible.

‘Bad…Luck? Was that it?’ He frowned in thought, ‘But, if that was possible, then why am I alive and only my sword was destroyed?’

Slowly, as time passed in such a fashion, Compass Carburettor gradually regained some strength as his body continued to heal. He then got up and dragged himself towards the Claw Wolf, making it sprint out of the Temperate Refinement Zone at full speed.

Right as he had left the place, a crack formed on the central rock pillar, slowly widening in response before shattering to pieces. And, the way it shattered caused the nearby rock pillars to also fall in fashion, creating a domino effect.

And that wasn’t all, due to the rubble, the effect that the region unleashed to the cultivators was severely diminished.

Dullin’s bad luck wasn’t able to wholly affect Compass Carburettor because he had a sizeable luck. Honestly, Dullin had underestimated his innate luck.

Moreover, due to his actions where he did tasks unaware to Chenger right under her nose, his innate luck had grown considerably.

That was how he survived in this situation.

And now, it was what allowed him to survive. Bad luck was synonymous to misfortune. And until he was that, his innate luck protected him. That was why, in place of him, through mysterious purposes, his energy blade sword was destroyed.

And that made him weapon less, hence prompting him to leave the place for the time being. And right after he left, the remaining bad luck took effect, causing a chain reaction that destroyed the entire region.

Compass Carburettor had indeed survived this encounter. But, he also paid a sharp price. First was a massive reduction in his innate luck. Secondly was that he lost a place of development, one that would have allowed him to become a lot stronger.

So, his future potential had been shaved as a result.

This was the price he paid to take down a Luck-based System Host. And this was just a common Luck based System Host enemy.

After all, if what Dullin had spoken was the truth, then it was indeed the Bad Luck System that was in him.

Bad Luck System-Level 27!

It was one of the weakest among the Luck based Systems. But, it was also one of the worst opponents to go against at the start itself. After all, unlike most Luck based Systems with self-serving abilities, the Bad Luck System attacked the luck of others.

And with his innate luck severely depleted, Compass Carburettor was backed into a corner now. If he were to face Straxia now, death was guaranteed.

Forget Straxia, even Velcorn had a fair chance of killing him, not to mention Chenger who’s the Host to the Destiny Luck System. If they were to have their fated battle now, he would be the one to die.

‘I should avoid a one-on-one encounter with Chenger at all costs now.’ He sighed in worry, slowly sensing his Origin Essence beginning to move.

And with that, his body’s boosted self-recovery took effect, slowly beginning to heal his injuries. Thankfully, there was plenty of Origin Essence in the air that he could absorb while on the move to heal himself.

He didn’t wish to remain in the same location for long, now that he had killed his first foe.

When his innate luck stopped decreasing was when he determined that Dullin had died. But still, just to confirm it, he stomped Dullin’s head until it was smashed into mush. With him dead, his armour began to slowly lose its effect.

And during his resting time, it lost most power, allowing him to shatter Dullin’s head. Even System Hosts wouldn’t survive that, especially in this case with all System-related abilities dead.

Even if they were able to somehow use their Skills, that was using the Host’s memories, through their mind. And once they were dead, the mind would shatter, leaving no room for the System’s survival.

“Urghh!” He hissed in pain as his facial muscles convulsed, twitching nonstop as they began to heal. He had multiple fractures, tissue breaks, cut nerves, etc.

He only had to come across a second System Host to meet his end now. Thankfully, he had taken such measures beforehand, ensuring that even if he were to come across a System Host, he would be facing them alone.

The lady atop the rock pillar watched him exit the Temperate Refinement Zone as soon after, the rock pillars began to collapse one after another, alarming her as she quickly began to descend it.

Swish!

An arrow flew at her, right after she jumped from the rock pillar when she was around ten metres from the ground. This was a scalable distance, and hence, to save time, she had taken such an action.

But using this opportune time when she was helpless, an arrow headed straight for her head, baffling her.

Her only option was to raise her hand, watching the arrow pierce through it and come to a stop. But, it cracked the bones in her left hand, preventing her from using her bow for the time being.

The lady looked around, grunting in anger as she was unable to detect her attacker. But, she didn’t have the freedom of time to search for him as the rock pillars began to collapse right after.

The collapse of the rock pillars indeed hindered part of his Compass Carburettor’s development, but it also saved him in that a second System Host was unable to target him right at his weakest state.

“Huhh…puff…so, that was a System Host. Terrifying!” Ranze patted his chest, hearing the sound of his heartbeats loud and clear as he continued to run away from the Temperate Refinement Zone, soon leaving the place.
